Our First 2 Weeks!

We did it!  We finally  got to start our service as missionaries.  We loaded our car, spoke in church, wrapped up our time with family, got set apart and took our overnight bags to the MTC Monday morning after goodbye pictures and hugs at the Provo Temple.  Whew!

For us, it was so exciting to enter the MTC where all 6 of our kids have spent weeks preparing to serve missions.  (2 were at the Mexico MTC)
During our week there we loved meeting the other senior couples and learning of their many different assignments.  We loved our teachers and learning from Preach My Gospel.  We loved eating in the cafeteria and sitting down by new missionaries every meal to learn where they were from and where they have been called to serve.  We made tons of connections.  Here is a sample of our last dinner there with the young missionaries.  "Oh you are from American Fork, well we are also, and your companion is from Tremonton.  That is where I grew up so you know my niece,  Emmeline. Oh, you are headed to Ivory Coast, cool- that is where our son served also.  And you're going to serve in Ventura, well that is where our daughter is serving!  You get the idea, we LOVED talking to everyone we could.  We loved the beautiful MTC campus and the incredible autumn weather (well actually more like late summer temperatures) We sang with the choir, attended devotionals and "The Characters of Christ" discussion from a talk by Elder Bednar, and a trip to the temple.  We were assigned a district  of 3 other couples and got to know and love them.
We are so glad that we can keep in touch with everyone while we are serving.  As senior couples we are free to call, text, and even travel to see our grandkids who live just outside of our mission area.  Keep in touch
Love, Sister Jerman

From Roger,
Hi!

We finally made it out to the mission field.  We’re living in Antioch California, which is different than what we thought. We took the place of Elder and Sister Severe in the Employment Center, but moved into the MLS (Member Leader Support) missionaries' hangout. We love our lapartment, and the neighborhood we live in is beautiful! We’ve been on some great bike rides around the neighborhood and found some beautiful biking trails.

This past week has been crazy, getting moved in, getting to know how to get to our office, and getting trained, but it’s done! The Severes were so fun to work with, although very briefly, they showed us around the office and took us out to eat Sourdough Sandwiches. They took off for home Wednesday, but mistakenly packed with them the battery charger that went to the laptop we needed to present our PowerPoint today in our first 5th Sunday presentation. We figured it out, but when we arrived at the ward house we came into the building and introduced ourselves to the first person we met and they looked at us carefully and said “Oh, are you missionaries?” We looked down and realized we weren't wearing our name badges.   We had rushed out of the house without our badges!
We didn't tell anyone we had just arrived to the mission and this was our first presentation, we just went through it as if we totally knew what we were talking about!  Haha!
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, we “guzzled from the fire hose!” Our supervisors flew in from Salt Lake and gave us a lot of excellent training but we were busy trying to understand, remember and write everything down they were telling us. They were really nice and took us out to lunch and a dinner. We got to meet the agent Stake President who is in charge of the public relations for our employment center.
It’s been so great to start off on our mission with such great people and memorable experiences, tomorrow morning we are flying solo and not sure what is going to happen - but GERONIMO- Here we go!

Love you guys,
Elder and Sister Jerman
